Julia Herron threw 12 strikeouts and gave up just one hit for Branson for a key victory over Urban of San Francisco.

Herron, already established as a hitter, came to the mound this season after a few of Branson's pitchers suffered injuries and has shown steady progress.

"We've had pitching problems all year" said Branson coach Bruce Hidreth. "Herron has been learning to pitch, taking the responsibility of keeping the program together."

In the sixth, Herron's bat proved as useful as her arm, hitting a double to drive in Kelsey Kjus, who reached on a walk. Julia Russel followed to hit a line drive single to left center, bringing Herron home.
